TOPCAT Community Talk

The TOPCAT Community Talk was created so that sailors can talk to each other during the cold season: An uncomplicated video meeting in a convivial atmosphere - moderated by a shipyard employee. The topics ranged from technology and handling to sailing vacations and regattas to general area recommendations. Experience from 2023 shows that this format allows newcomers in particular to get their questions about TOPCAT sailing answered directly and without hesitation. In 2024, the Community Talk will be further expanded in a targeted manner and is intended to appeal to an international audience - and we are sure to meet one or two future regatta sailors through this format ;-). The dates for spring 2024 are 19. January 23 February 8 March Take a look and we look forward to welcoming you to the TOPCAT Community Talk.

Workshops

in 2023, a series of workshops were held in the TOPCAT showroom in Inning and at sailing schools (test centers). All workshops take place on land and are designed to provide basic knowledge about the boat's processes and functions before participants can practice what they have learned independently on the water There are 4 different levels of workshops in total:

  • Level 1 Basic
  • Level 2 Harness
  • Level 3 Reacher/Rollgennaker
  • Level 4 Trim&Tricks.

The workshops are free of charge for members of the class association and will be expanded in 2024 in cooperation with the national KVs in order to appeal to more TOPCAT sailors. Further information can be found here: Workshops

Youth development

Through the youth program, more than 20 young people sailed on a TOPCAT regatta boat for the first time in 2023 and most of them also successfully completed their first regattas. The shipyard provided up to 4 K2X regattas for youth sailors for various regattas and training sessions. Paul Säger (shipyard) together with Sebi Pfohl (ITCA) organized a training camp in Cesenatico at the start of the season and the group that came together there then provided a breath of fresh air at other regattas. In addition to Cesenatico, the highlight for the young sailors was certainly the IDB on Lake Ammersee. And the youth training camp in Cesenatico has already been scheduled for 2024: March 25-29, 2024.

TOPCAT training with the best

As part of the workshops, Wolfgang Klampfer organized a regatta training session with boat check and subsequent water session before the IDB. The focus was on trimming and starting exercises. Many sailors took part to get the most out of their TOPCAT and get a taste of the regatta scene.

Student sponsorship

Together with the ADH (Allgemeiner Deutscher Hochschulsportverband), a student training course was organized in August at Lake Starnberg on the grounds of the ZHS. Students from all over Germany took part in this 4-day program. The ZHS (Central University Sports Munich) and the USC (University Sports Club Munich) actively supported us with manpower and equipment.  In addition to the 4 TOPCAT K2X Touring of the shipyard, 3 boats were provided by ZHS and USC and enabled the participation of almost 30 students, who were able to enthusiastically expand their cat sailing skills. Many thanks to Basti Reisböck, Christian Stolz, Rolf Boetzel, Björn Röder and Tobias Borucker for their support and the opportunity to organize this training for the students. Three student teams (USC Munich) already took part in the final regatta on Lake Brombach. several more events for students are planned for 2024.
